Simulation Platform Architecture
1SCALABLE simulation products have been designed with a modular architecture. The "core" of every system is the SCALABLE simulation engine, a discrete event simulator that is highly optimized to run in multi-processor multi-core environments. Versions are available for both MS Windows and a variety of Linux implementations (in either 32-bit or 64-bit modes), which can run on everything from standard desktop PCs up to very large virtualized parallel computing environments. This engine maintains the primary databases for software virtual network (SVN) configuration and scenario staticstics. To execute a "pure" self-contained constructive simulation, the SCALABLE core is all that is required.
2In order to connect a SCALABLE simulation to another simulation system (for example, a semi-automated forces [SAF] battlefield planning and training system), there is a "constructive" integration interface that facilitates the bi-directional message passing that keeps the two (or more) systems synchronized. The primary standards for this integration are the HLA and DIS protocols.
3Actual physical elements (live hardware and software, whole networks, etc.) can be integrated with software virtual networks into highly realistic "mixed mode" environments. Developmental or production applications can be run "across" the virtual environment exactly as if it were running over an equivalent physical network.
4Model Libraries contain high fidelity programatic definitions of the protocols and waveforms used in communications equipment. SCALABLE offers a range of libraries (which can be combined with custom libraries as necessary) to represent every element in a communications network. The Cyber Dynamics Library offers a suite of simulated cyber attacks that can executed against your network models to determine the resiliency and vulnerability of your communications to cyber warfare.
